For 128 years, the Boston Marathon has been one of the biggest highlights of the marathon season. The historic race cuts through New England and ends in Copley Square. 

This year runner Evans Chebet of Kenya will attempt to win the men's race for the third year in row, while women's runner Hellen Obiri also of Kenya will attempt to become the first back-to-back winner since Catherine Ndereba in 2005.

John J. McDermott was the first man to win the Boston Marathon in 1897, while Roberta Gibb in 1966 is the first woman to have run the entire Boston Marathon.
