Prepare for a whale of a time this Wednesday, February 18th! Flotrack is LIVE from the AIT Grand Prix, one of Ireland's premier indoor competitions and an event featuring a slew of the top track and field athletes from around the world.

The second annual AIT Grand Prix is headlined by World Champions Mutaz Essa Barshim (Qatar), Asafa Powell (Jamaica) and Tianna Bartoletta (USA). Mutaz Essa Barshim, the returning World Indoor high jump champion, is expected to take a shot at the all-time world indoor high jump record of 2.43 meters. The 23-year-old currently owns a personal best of 2.4 meters, good for fifth all time. 

U.S. favorites competing this Wednesday include Ben Blankenship, who took second in the mile at the New Balance Grand Prix two weeks ago, Erik Sowinski who recently broke the DMR world record with fellow Americans Matt Centrowitz, Mike Berry & Pat Casey, and master hurdler Sharika Nelvis, who is fresh off of a Millrose Games title. 

All eyes, however, are sure to fall on Ireland's own Ciaran O'Lionaird. The anchor leg of Ireland's supreme DMR team, which recently took 2nd to Team USA's world record team, will be racing the mile at the AIT Grand Prix.  Expect an assembly of raucous clapping, chanting and stomping as the young Irishman hits the bell lap.
