FULL RESULTS HERE

We woke up early and we were not disappointed.

The Birmingham Grand Prix provided us with a brand spanking new two mile world record, courtesy of Mo Farah. His time of 8:03.40 broke Kenenisa Bekele’s previous mark of 8:04.34. The pace was hot from the beginning, going through 4:03 at one mile with the ageless wonder Bernard Lagat following close behind. But with 1200m to go, it was all Mo. At the bell lap, the clock read 7:35 as he closed the last lap solo to the roaring home crowd on their feet. His time beat out runner-up Paul Koech by over 10 seconds. Lagat finished third in 8:17.05.

In the men’s 1500m, what we thought would turn into The Centro Show, was indeed not the Centro Show. Vincent Kibet and Bethwell Birgen of Kenya gave us a photo finish to remember when they both leaned to 3:34.91. Kibet was awarded the win. Matthew Centrowitz finished 10th in 3:40.80.

In the women’s one mile, Shannon Rowbury couldn’t seem to break that 4:24 mark. She finished runner-up to Ethiopia’s Axumawit Embaye who won in 4:23.50. Rowbury ran 4:24.12, just a hair better than her winning Millrose Games mark of 4:24.32.
