Flotrack will be in Ames, Iowa this Friday and Saturday for the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships. This conference is among the strongest in the nation across all events, with All-Americans and NCAA champions battling for bragging rights and NCAA qualifying marks this weekend. The Oklahoma State men and Texas women are the defending conference champions.

6 EVENTS TO WATCH:

Men's 60m
The SEC gets a lot of attention for the sprint distances, but there will be plenty of speed in Ames at the Big 12 Championships with three of the nation's top five times in the 60-meter dash. Baylor's Trayvon Bromell will look to defend his individual title from 2014, but he will have to contend with John Teeters from Oklahoma State and Ronnie Baker from TCU. Teeters (6.52) and Bromell (6.54) have the two fastest times in the country in 2015.

Women's 800m
Baylor's Olicia Williams made a statement in Ames two weeks ago at the Iowa State Classic, recording the nation's second fast 800-meter this season in 2:03.21. Right on her heels, however, was defending Big 12 champion Kaela Edwards of Oklahoma State University. Look for these two to test each other in preparation for indoor nationals. Edwards' teammates Clara Nichols and Kaylee Dodd might try to break back into the nation’s top 16 spots. They are currently 22nd and 23rd respectively.

Men's DMR
Look for Iowa State to load up their distance medley relay again this weekend and take advantage of their home track. The Cyclones threw down a 9:31.85 at the Alex Wilson Invite, and sit 11th in the nation. They will rely on a strong 800-meter leg from Edward Kemboi and some fast competition from Oklahoma State to help lock in an improved time. The Cowboys are ninth in the nation with a 9:30.65.

Women's 3k
The 3k is shaping up to have more than just conference bragging rights on the line. The Big 12's top contenders are all on the bubble for making the cut for nationals. It will take something better than a 9:07 to punch a ticket to Arkansas in March. Iowa State seniors Katey Moen and Margaret Connelly will look to defend their home track from Baylor's Maggie Montoya and Rachel Johnson. Longhorn sophomore Sandie Raines could also be in the mix.

Men's 4x400m
The meet could end with some fireworks in the men's 4x400 meter relay. TCU posted the top-seeded time Feb. 21 at the Arkansas Open, clocking a 3:06.05. Texas, Texas Tech and Baylor will be in the hunt for the title and bragging rights for the Lone Star state.

Women's 4x400m
This one is kind of one sided, and it should be a big boost for the Longhorns in the team standings. Texas swept the 400-meter in 2014 and all three athletes are back again. Courtney Okolo, Kendal Baisden and Ashley Spencer should lead the field. Spencer, a senior, will also be trying to lock in a qualifying time. She is currently 10th in the nation with a time of 52.46.

MEN'S TEAM BATTLE:

The Favorite
This is the Longhorns meet to lose. Texas comes into the meet ranked fifth in the nation. The overall size and competitive nature of the meet could be problematic for the Longhorns to pull away from the field in the team standings, but if they score big in the events they are favored in, it should be a lock for the Longhorns.

The Contender
Look for the Texas Tech Red Raiders to rack up the points in the field events and potentially steal some spots in the sprint finals. Jacorian Duffield and Bradley Adkins are two of the nation’s top high jumpers and Jerome Wilson is a threat to score in the long jump and triple jump. Where TTU will struggle is find places to score in the distance races and relays. If Evans Tuitoek makes his 2015 indoor debut, he could help the Red Raiders. He placed fifth in the 3,000-meter and eight in the 5,000-meter at the Big 12 meet last year.

The Dark Horse
The Horned Frogs made a huge leap in the national polls, landing at 14th this week. Similar to TTU, TCU will score a majority of their points in the field events and sprints. Their new mark in the 4x400 relay shows they are capable of getting a critical victory late in the meet.

Flotrack’s Pick
After last year’s runner up finish, Texas is primed to come out on top of this highly contested conference race. A couple key performances for the Longhorns will be Zach Bilderback in the open 400, Craig Lutz leading a pack of teammates to a strong finish in the 5,000-meter run and Nick Phynn in the long jump and triple jump.

WOMEN'S TEAM BATTLE:

The Favorite
Texas has the potential to put big points on the board in almost every event. The fourth ranked team in the country should defend their Big 12 title.

The Contender
Baylor has been climbing in the national polls, up to eighth this week. The middle and distance runners and relays are going to have to secure a majority of Baylor's points with some upset performances in the sprints and field events to keep the Bears in the hunt for the team title.

The Dark Horse
Kansas State may not jump off the page in the running events with times close to the national cutoff, but their field events pack a punch. With a couple of breakout running performances to complement their strong field events, Kansas State should be a top three team this weekend.

Flotrack’s Pick
If the Longhorns run comparable finishes to where they are seeded, they should have no problem defending their Big 12 title from 2014.
