Alexa Efraimson Set to Roll on the 800m at Portland Twilight
The Pacific Northwest is heating up this Sunday with some top collegiates, pros and high school superstars lighting up the track at Portland Twilight. Live on FloTrack starting at 6:00 p.m. PT, Lewis & Clark College will host some of the top runners in the area with the Portland Pilot powerhouse and World Youth bronze medalist Alexa Efraimson set to roll out.
Alexa Efraimson Hitting the Speed Work
After contending with a tough crowd of pros and college runners at the Payton Jordan Invitational 5k, high school pro Alexa Efraimson returns to a shorter distance Sunday with an entry in the women’s 800m. The 5K at Payton proved to be a tougher distance for the middle-distance specialist, as she took the lead from the gun and faded to a 19th-place finish overall in 16:09.
Moving forward and on to shorter distances, the World Youth bronze medalist holds an 800m personal best of 2:03 and has yet to run the two-lap distance since February when she ran an indoor personal best of 2:05 at the Jacksons Invite. She is also entered in section 4 of the 800m at the HOKA ONE ONE Middle Distance Classic Thursday in Eagle Rock, Calif. If she attempts the double, Efraimson could have a great prelim and final simulation in store this week.
Efraimson has also had an eventful week off the track after going to prom with recent sub-four miler Matthew Maton on Saturday.

Portland Pilot Power
The Portland contingent of Scott Fauble, Ryan Poland, Timo Goehler, David Perry, Chris Borg, William Kincaid, and Keegan Symmes is entered to complete the 3K, and some are also entered to double in the 1500m this weekend.
Last fall, the Pilots accomplished an incredible feat of placing third at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, and they did it with only five finishers. All American finishes from Fauble (12) Reid Buchanan (28), and final scores from Timo Goehler (44), Danny Martinez (59), and William Kincaid (70) helped the Pilots earn their first NCAA podium finish in school history.
This track season, Fauble debuted in the half marathon distance in Houston with a 63:59 and most recently ran a season’s best time of 14:04 in the 5K at Payton Jordan. Kincaid is returning from running a school record in the mile at the Oregon Twilight, where the senior ran 4:00 and placed fifth overall in a stacked field. Goehler also competed at the Oregon Twilight where he clocked an eighth-place finish in the 3K for a finishing time of 8:22.
Working together, this pack of Pilots should run their way to some fast marks on their home turf.
UPDATE: Although he is included on the entry list, sub-four minute miler Matthew Maton is no longer planning on running the 3k. He has informed FloTrack that he plans to scratch from the event.
