Nelson took down New Hampshire All-American Elinor Purrier, who finished runner-up in 4:31.88, in the final lap. The duo pulled away from defending champion Kaela Edwards of Oklahoma State, who wound up finishing in fourth behind Penn State freshman Danae Rivers.
