Up right now: the women's middle-distance preview.
Worlds standard: 2:01.0
USAs standard: 2:02.0
Who: Olivia Baker, Shea Collinsworth, Kaela Edwards, Justine Fedronic, Savannah Camacho, Annie LeBlanc, Katie Mackey, Lauren Wallace, Chrishuna Williams, Lynsey Sharp, Jessica Smith, Carsyn Koch
UPDATE: Sharp is a scratch.
When: 7:37 PM PT (Heat 1)
Why: You could say that the Payton Jordan Invitational helped shape former Razorbacks quarter mile specialist Chrishuna Williams into an Olympian 800m runner. The 24-year-old has won the 800m at the past two editions of the Stanford meet, and each time set a new PB: 2:01.61 in 2015, then 2:00.58 in 2016. Read more about Williams here, who peaked last year with a 1:59.59 PB and third-place finish at the U.S. Olympic Trials to earn a spot at the Rio Games. This year, she's set a SB of 2:00.41 with a fourth-place finish at the Mt. SAC Relays and run third leg on Team USA's winning 4x800m at the IAAF World Relays.
Watch Olympian Chrishuna Williams win the 2016 Payton Jordan 800m:
The field boasts several more international Olympians, including 25-year-old Justine Fedronic of France, who has run 1:59.86 and was runner-up to Williams here last year; 21-year-old Aníta Hinriksdóttir of Iceland, who could break her own national record of 2:00.14; Canada's Jessica Smith, who ran 1:59.86 in 2012 and competed at the London Games; and Anneliese Rubie of Australia, who competed in Rio in the 400m and has a half-mile PB of 2:02.52.
Watch Jessica Smith win the Stanford Invitational earlier this month:
Top collegians include All-Americans Shea Collinsworth of BYU, third at the NCAA Indoor Championships and the current No. 3-ranked DI athlete; Olivia Baker of Stanford and Oklahoma State's mid-d duo of Kaela Edwards and Savannah Camacho. It will be interesting to note how they line up against DII star Carsyn Koch of Cedarville, whose 4:12.19 win at Bryan Clay is the second-fastest women's collegiate 1500m this year regardless of division.
