Western Branch Sets Shuttle Hurdle Relay National Record, Again
Western Branch broke their own national high school record in the 4x100m shuttle hurdle relay at New Balance Nationals Outdoor
The Western Branch High School girls program from Virginia now owns the top four fastest shuttle hurdle relay times in U.S. history, thanks to their national high school record-setting run of 55.06 at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor Championship today.
The quartet of Jada Terrell, Shadajah Ballard, Adriana Shockley, and Jashella Jenkins maintained a healthy lead over Maryland's Bullis for the entirety of the race and finished well under their own national record of 55.36, set in 2015. Bullis was later disqualified, and Western Branch's 'B' team earned runner-up honors in 58.60.
The Bruins also won last year's title in 55.89, now the No. 3 time in prep history, as well as the 2014 title in 56.55, now No. 4 time in prep history.
No other high school team has ever run under 57 seconds, as Hoover High School of Alabama ranks No. 5 on the all-time list with their 2015 effort of 57.00. Only Western Branch, Hoover, Vacaville (CA), North (CA), Miami Northwestern (FL) and Long Beach Poly (CA) have cracked 58 seconds in the 4x100m shuttle hurdle relay.
