Bowerman Award Finalists Announced
USTFCCA announced the Bowerman Award finalists today.
The finalists for the Bowerman Award, the highest honor in NCAA DI track and field, were announced today by the USTFCCCA. Raevyn Rogers of Oregon, Keturah Orji of Georgia and Maggie Ewen of Arizona State are the women's finalists; Christian Coleman of Tennessee, Fred Kerley of Texas A&M and Lindon Victor of Texas A&M are the men's finalists. One man and one woman will be selected the Bowerman Award recipient at the USTFCCCA Convention in Phoenix, Arizona in December of this year.
Criteria for selection is limited to the 2016-2017 indoor and outdoor collegiate track seasons; the cross country season is not taken into consideration nor are any performances after the conclusion of the NCAA DI Outdoor Track & Field Championships in June.
In the FloTrack staff predictions published earlier this week, no one picked the three women finalists. I was the only one to select the combination of Coleman, Kerley and Victor as the men's finalists. In the prediction article, our seven-person panel unanimously selected Rogers and Coleman as the winners, but we'll have to wait six more months to see if we're right.
Watch Christian Coleman run 9.82 to break the NCAA record at the prelims of the outdoor championships:
