Middle Tennessee State Dominates Season Opener At Brooks Memphis Twilight
Middle Tennessee State started the cross country season by dominating the men's four mile run at the Brooks Memphis Twilight on Saturday night. The Blue Raiders swept the team race with 25 points, 22 points less than runner-up Ole Miss.
Middle Tennessee State started the cross country season by dominating the men's 4-mile run at the Brooks Memphis Twilight on Saturday night in Memphis, Tennessee. The Blue Raiders swept the team race with 25 points, 22 points fewer than runner-up Ole Miss.
Kigen Chemadi won the individual race over his teammate, All-American Jacob Choge, in a winning time of 19:46. In total, the Blue Raiders scored all five runners in the top 14 positions in the race.
Behind the Blue Raiders, Ole Miss claimed second with a leading performance from Brandon Harvey, who finished sixth overall. Trevor Gilley and Ben Savino finished behind him in seventh and eighth, respectively.
The women's race was once again dominated by local Brooks professional standout Lauren Paquette, who claimed the individual title in 17:30, 30 seconds faster than runner-up Arnica Zitting of Memphis.
Paquette's performance closes out a season which included a fifth-place finish in the 5K at the USATF Outdoor Championships in June.
The NCAA team race was won by UAB with 56 points and a top finish from Emily Drouin who placed third individually. Ole Miss followed for the runner-up position with 74 points while Middle Tennessee State claimed third.
