NCAA title contender Anna Rohrer will not be competing during the fall cross country season. Notre Dame's associate head coach Matt Sparks told the Observer on Tuesday that the team's No. 1 runner will redshirt the season.
"[Anna Roher] had a medical procedure to stimulate the repair of her hamstring and it requires her to sit out for a couple of weeks of training," Sparks said. "That decision has been made that she won't be competing this year.
"Rather than have her at less than 100 percent, we're going to let her heal up fully. She'll be ready to run track in January," Sparks said.
During the spring track season, Rohrer made her debut in the 10K distance. In her first outdoor 10K of her career, Rohrer won the Stanford Invitational in 31:58.99, which made her the seventh-fastest performer in NCAA history.

Unfortunately, Rohrer suffered from a herniated disc during the championship portion of the outdoor season. But she still managed to fight for a 16th-place finish at NCAA championships in June.
In the FloXC pre-season individual rankings, Rohrer was ranked No. 4 after earning a sixth-place finish in 2015 and a third-place finish in 2016. With Rohrer no longer in the title race, the top contenders are No. 1 Karissa Schweizer, No. 2 Allie Ostrander, No. 3 Ednah Kurgat, and now No. 4 Brie Oakley.
