Cheers! Coogan's Will Remain Open

Instead of pouring one out for Coogan's tonight, order a round to celebrate!

America's favorite track and field bar and restaurant has reportedly reached a new agreement on its lease terms with New York Presbyterian Hospital and will stay open, according to congressman Adriano Espaillat:

Peter Walsh, one of the owners of Coogan's, said that the hospital wanted to increase the bar's rent by $40,000 per month beginning in May. Instead, an extension of the current lease was agreed upon between both parties on Friday afternoon, according to the New York Times. Terms were not released.

Shortly after the news broke on Tuesday, a Change.org petition to save Coogan's surfaced. As of this writing, the petition has gained 15,848 supporters.

A favorite of locals and celebrities, Coogan's patron and Broadway star Lin-Manuel Miranda weighed in on the controversy as well:

Miranda was present for the Friday night celebration, where he met former teen track phenom Mary Cain.

Coogan's has been located around the block from the The Armory Track & Field Center in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood for nearly 33 years.
