Elite 1500m Runners Shannon Rowbury, Faith Kipyegon Announce Pregnancies
Shannon Rowbury, 1500m and 5K American record-holder, and Faith Kipyegon, world and Olympic champion, announced their pregnancies this week.
Shannon Rowbury, the American record-holder for 1500m and 5000m, announced her pregnancy today on Instagram with a rather adorable, infant-sized Nike kit and shoes.
If this child's parentage is any indication, he or she could be one super-speedy baby. Rowbury's husband, Pablo Solares, is the Mexican national record-holder in the 800m, 1500m, and indoor mile, and Rowbury's resume is replete with U.S. titles and world medals.
Rowbury isn't the only elite distance runner to recently announce a pregnancy. Earlier this week, reigning 1500m world and Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon of Kenya went on maternity leave.
Although the timing is opportune as 2018 is an off-year in the IAAF Outdoor World Championships and Olympic Games cycles, both athletes will miss the impending 2018 IAAF Indoor World Championships, which will take place from March 1-4 in Birmingham, U.K.
