Could Christian Coleman Break Usain Bolt's 100m World Record?
Usain Bolt's 9.58 WR compared to Christian Coleman's 6.34 WR.
This past weekend Christian Coleman made a big splash in the track and field world with a blistering 6.34 60m run shattering Maurice Greene's official world record by .05!
So what does 6.34 mean for Coleman in the 100m? Could Coleman have a realistic shot at breaking Usain Bolt's historic 9.58 world record?
Let's take a look at what Bolt's official 60m splits were for the three fastest wind-legal 100m runs in history.
Split | '09 Bolt | '12 Bolt | '08 Bolt | '18 Coleman |
Reaction Time | 0.146 | 0.165 | 0.165 | 0.149 |
60m Split | 6.31 | 6.35 | 6.32 | 6.34 |
100m Time | 9.58 | 9.63 | 9.69 | N/A |
As you can see Coleman's 6.34 is comparable to Bolt's 60m en-route splits. Now obviously 9.58 is no joke and what made Bolt so great was the second half of his races. But, if we are ever going to see another sub-9.70 on the track Coleman might just be the man for the job.
