On The Run: World Championship Silver Medalist Drew Windle | Ep. 77

Drew Windle’s experience at the 2018 World Indoor Championships perfectly encapsulated the controversy and craziness of the weekend. The 800m runner from the United States placed second in Saturday’s final, only to learn he was disqualified for contact with another runner. The disqualification didn’t last, though. After a successful protest filed on his behalf, Windle was reinstated and the 25-year-old had the first medal of his career.

In this episode, Windle talks about the experience of winning, losing, and then winning a medal again, how the absence of big names Emmanuel Korir and Donavan Brazier impacted his race plan, his thoughts on the Birmingham track that yielded so many disqualifications, and what rules should be in place to make sure there isn’t another meet with so many DQs.

Then, Jenny and Kevin give their impressions of the meet and look forward to the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships. Which races are they most excited about? Who are some of the dark horse candidates to keep an eye on? What potential surprises are on tap in College Station?
