Ethiopians Hagos Gebrhiwet and Buze Diriba won the B.A.A. 5K titles, but the story of the day went to Aidan Puffer, who broke his own U13 world record.
Ethiopians Hagos Gebrhiwet and Buze Diriba won the B.A.A. 5K titles today at Boston Common, and a 13-year-old named Aidan Puffer broke his own age group world record.
The 23-year-old Gebrhiwet, who won Olympic bronze in the 5K in 2016, edged defending champion Ben True and Tommy Curtin of the Saucony Freedom Track Club. All three men crossed the finish line in 13:42.
True set an American road record of 13:20 en route to his 2017 victory, while Gebrhiwet was just seventh last year.

True was disappointed to lose in a kick:
Curtin talked about being the guy everyone forgets about:
Diriba won the women's title for the second year in a row with a time of 15:22 as international athletes swept the top four places. Molly Seidel of the Saucony Freedom Track Club was the first American in fifth place with a time of 15:33.

Puffer had previously set the U13 world record in 16:11.4 at a Boston area road race in September. Today, he lowered that mark to 15:47.
Congratulations are also in order to Aidan Puffer for breaking his own road race world record for 13 year olds. With an unofficial 15:47 at the #BAA5K, Puffer lowers previous WR from 16:11.4!
