FloTrack To Stream The 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon In Canada
FloTrack's event schedule just got a little bit tastier for Canadian viewers, as FloSports announced the streaming rights for the 2018 London Marathon.
FloSports has agreed to a multi-year partnership with TCB Sport Media to broadcast the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon. The race will be will be streamed LIVE on FloTrack for Canadian viewers on April 22 with coverage beginning at 7:45 GMT.
Headlined by defending champion Daniel Wanjiru, the men’s field also features Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge, four-time Olympic champion Mo Farah, and three-time Olympic champion Kenenisa Bekele. Wanjiru prevailed in a close race last year, defeating Bekele by nine seconds and giving the 25-year-old the first world marathon major victory of his career. But this year they will also have to contend with Kipchoge. Last spring, Kipchoge ran 2:00:25 during the Breaking2 project, and he has won seven marathons in a row, including his course record-setting performance (2:03.05) at the 2016 London Marathon.
British fans will have extra interest in the performance of Mo Farah. The British champion has fully converted to the marathon after 10 global gold medals on the track. His last appearance in the race was 2014 when he finished eighth in 2:08:21. This year, he has fixed his gaze on the British record of 2:07:13.
Fast times are also expected in the women’s race. Male pacers are scheduled as Mary Keitany takes a shot at the world record of 2:15:25. Keitany ran her lifetime best of 2:17:01 last year in this race, the second-fastest mark of all time. But she won’t be alone in London. Tirunesh Dibaba, the runner-up at last year’s race and the 2017 Chicago Marathon, is also entered in the race. Her performances in those two races were the fifth- and sixth-fastest marks of all time in the marathon. Vivian Cheruiyot (the 2016 Olympic champion in the 5000m), Rose Chelimo (the 2017 World Championships gold medalist), and Tigist Tufa (the 2015 London Marathon) will all seek to break up the battle between Keitany and Dibaba.
The deal with TCB also enables FloSports to broadcast two cycling events this July—the Prudential RideLondon Classique on July 29 and the Prudential RideLondon Classic on July 30—for viewers in Canada and Latin America on FloBikes.
