The University of Oregon revealed rendered images today of a post-construction Hayward Field, which is currently scheduled to open sometime in 2020—at any rate, in time to host the 2021 IAAF World Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Construction is scheduled to begin in June of 2018 upon completion of the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The future stadium has a space-age feel to it, especially thanks to a transparent, curved roof over the permanent seats, and the "Bowerman Tower," a translucent silver, 165-foot tall, nine-story tower in the northeast corner that is intended to look like the Olympic torch.
The project's final cost is estimated to be more than $200 million, according to Ken Goe of the Oregonian. The funds were privately raised by 50 donors, including principal donor and Nike co-founder Phil Knight.
