The NCAA Preliminary Rounds act as the gateway to the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships. The top 24 relay teams and top 48 competitors in each event earn a place in their respective region—either the East or the West, depending on the location of their NCAA institution. By the end of the weekend, the top 12 finishers in each event advance to the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships, which will be held this year at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field in Eugene.
“As a company dedicated to growing the sport of track and field, we’re proud to partner with the NCAA and NCAA Digital to bring fans live coverage of the Division I Preliminary Rounds,” FloSports co-founder and COO Mark Floreani said. “Showcasing the nation’s top student-athletes in such an electric atmosphere is an incredible opportunity, and we look forward to continuing to elevate this pivotal event through our original content and live production.”
Last year’s NCAA Preliminary Round action saw a number of outstanding performances, including a new NCAA record in the 400m set by Texas A&M’s Fred Kerley and Christian Coleman of Tennessee’s second-fastest men’s collegiate 200m of all time. The women's competition also saw standout results from Oregon’s Raevyn Rogers as she qualified in the 800m and anchored her 4x400m relay to the championships, while Arizona State’s Maggie Ewen qualified for three events in the hammer, discus and shot put.
