Amy Cragg Withdraws From Chicago Marathon
Amy Cragg, one of the nation's best marathoners, has withdrawn from the 2018 Chicago Marathon.
The Chicago Marathon women's field is down another American.
Race organizers announced on Tuesday that Amy Cragg has withdrawn, citing a setback in her buildup to the October 7th race.
Last week, American Jordan Hasay pulled out of the race due to an ongoing issue with her heel.
Expectations were high for Cragg after her stellar run at February's Tokyo Marathon where she ran 2:21:41 to finish third. The time was a personal best by more than five minutes and moved her to number five all-time in the United States.
Without Cragg and Hasay, American hopes will rest with Laura Thweatt and Gwen Jorgensen. Thweatt is running her first marathon since the 2017 London Marathon, while Jorgensen is competing at the distance for the first time since fully focusing on running.
