Tara Davis Transfers To Texas, Will Sit Out Season
Tara Davis will head to the University of Texas.
Former Georgia All-American and 60m hurdles world junior record holder Tara Davis has transferred to Texas, the 19-year-old announced on her Instagram on Wednesday.
However, due to transfer rules, Davis will not be eligible to compete for the Longhorns until the 2019-2020 track season. Transfers who are not released by their previous schools must sit out a year of competition.
Davis’ transfer process has been a whirlwind since her former coach at Georgia, Petros Kyprianou, tweeted on Dec. 13 that the hurdler/jumper was headed to the University of Texas. Despite Kyprianou’s claim, Davis said at the time that she had not signed with the Longhorns and had only visited the school. Then, Davis released a video on Dec. 18 in which she stated Georgia was not granting her release to allow her to compete for another school this season.
I am currently not allowed to compete this track season. I need your support as I appeal University of Georgia and coach Petros’ decision not to release me to run for any other NCAA university this 2018-2019 season. pic.twitter.com/LSmN74wrqh

Davis will be coached by new Texas boss Edrick Floréal, who has a long history of coaching superstars in the hurdles. The former Kentucky head coach helped Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (100m hurdles) and Sydney McLaughlin (400m hurdles) win NCAA titles in 2018, and his professional stable includes 100m hurdles world record holder Keni Harrison and 2017 400m hurdles world champion Kori Carter.
