Half Marathon WR Holder Kiptum Suspended For Doping Violation
Half marathon world record holder Abraham Kiptum has been suspended after an anti-doping violation.
World record holder Abraham Kiptum has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit due to an anti-doping violation. Kiptum, who ran 58:18 at the 2018 Valencia Half Marathon to set the world record, was scheduled to compete in Sunday’s London Marathon.
According to the Athletics Integrity Unit, Kiptum’s violation relates to his biological passport—the system that monitors an athlete’s testing profile over time.
While under suspension, Kiptum is not permitted to compete until a hearing has been conducted and a final decision on his case has been rendered.
Prior to his record run last October, Kiptum’s personal best in the event was 59:09. He’d also run 2:05:26 in the marathon.
This year, Kiptum has competed twice. He won the Granollers Half Marathon in Spain in 59:58 and ran 1:00:04 at the Bahrain Night Half Marathon.
