Analysis:
Despite losing their top two runners in sisters Shannon and Mary Malone, the Syracuse women look ready to rebound from missing last year’s NCAA XC Championship and place within the top 15 this fall in Terre Haute. Minus the Malones, the rest of the top seven returns led by All-Northeast Region performer Rachel Bonner, who showed aptitude for longer distances this spring by running 16:05 in her first-ever 5K on the track. Redshirt sophomore Laura Dickinson also displayed big improvements on the track this spring with a 15th-place finish in the 10K at NCAAs and All-ACC runs in the 5K and steeplechase.
Syracuse also adds a big name to its roster with the addition of Amanda Vestri, a transfer from Iowa State. The New York native placed 14th in the NCAA 10K final this spring and was the Big 12 Outdoor Championship runner-up in both the 5K and 10K. Expect Vestri, Dickinson and Bonner to form a solid top three this season.
