Analysis:
The Washington Huskies return a strong squad in 2019 that includes All-Americans Katie Rainsberger and Lilli Burdon, who made a huge impact last year after transferring from the University of Oregon. The duo have the potential to be one of the best 1-2 punches in the entire NCAA and lead a team that includes six of the top seven from last year’s ninth-place NCAA XC squad.
Australian junior champion Melany Smart, who owns PBs of 16:08 for 5K and 9:12 for 3K, could make an immediate impact in Seattle alongside Allie Schadler and Shona McCulloch, both of whom are returning All-West Region performers. 10K specialist Kaitlyn Neal raced just twice last fall, but is a talented contributor when healthy. She’ll be back this fall for her senior year.
