Analysis:

In 2014 the Portland Pilots finished on the podium with just five finishers including four seniors from their top five. The following season the Pilots were unable to make it back to the NCAA Championships needing an extra season of development/redshirts due to mass graduation from the varsity squad. However, since then Portland has consistently rolled out podium caliber team’s finishing 13th (2016), 2nd (2017), and 3rd (2018) the past three seasons. Looking towards 2019 the Pilots will once again be faced with mass graduation. However, this time around the Pilots will likely stay in the top ten due to their increased depth.

The Pilots only return their #1 and #6 runners from last season in Emmanuel Roudolff-Levisse (21st in 2018) and Caleb Webb (68th in 2018). These two men should be top-20 and top-40 guys this year respectively. Coach Rob Conner will look to a slew of athletes waiting in the wings to step up in 2019. Two notable younger guys who should make an impact are Evert Silva and Justin Hazell both of which redshirted their first years at Portland. Behind them are upperclassmen Michael Teran-Solano, Reuben Kiprono and Riley Osen. These three men have strong track personal bests and are due for breakout xc seasons.

The Pilots have built a reputation over the years under coach Conner that when the time comes at the end of the season they will be top ten contenders year in and year out.
