Analysis:

While the Colorado Mines women lose two scorers from last year’s fifth-place team, the return of track All-American Chloe Cook — who was granted another season of cross country eligibility — could be a huge boon to the Orediggers' podium aspirations in 2019.

Cook will rejoin a group that features four women who placed inside the top 100 at nationals last year. Leading that charge is senior Madeline Geesen, who was 49th in Pittsburgh last fall and is coming off a spring in which she improved dramatically on the track. Geesen won the outdoor conference 5K after placing 12th just a year prior.

Zoe Baker, Brook Eberle, and Morgan Molesworth are all solid and experienced harriers, each of whom could become All-Americans in 2019. Baker redshirted both track seasons, but her 36:15 road 10K at Bolder Boulder was mighty impressive. The best news is that Baker and Molesworth each have multiple seasons of eligibility remaining.

Coach Chris Siemers’ group will no doubt expect a podium finish this year with so much talent coming back. They’re just off for now due to having no returning All-Americans, but this group has the potential to be much greater than what they’ve shown.
