Analysis:

The women of SUNY Geneseo have finished no worse than sixth at the last five NCAA XC Championships, and with an All-American up front and some other experience on the roster, the Knights don’t plan to break that trend in 2019.

It won't be easy, however.

Senior Genny Corcoran will be expected, in part, to fill the void left by the graduation of fellow All-American Elise Ramirez as well as 2018 41st place finisher Allie Fernandez. Losing that depth is certainly a huge blow, but at least Corcoran has displayed top 10 potential: she finished fourth in the NCAA 10k and ran a 35:07 PB earlier in the spring.

Taylor Rettig, another senior, is the only other scorer from last year’s fifth place team besides Corcoran returning. Rettig (17:14 5k PB), has shown that she’s better than last year’s 156th place finish, but she’ll have to deliver on that promise as she’s projected to be this team’s No. 2.

Despite a large hit to graduation, the Knights have earned the benefit of the doubt over the last half decade with all their success at nationals. That said, much of the top seven is unproven outside of Corcoran. But, of course, the same could’ve been said about Corcoran herself entering last season, as she was just 127th at NCAAs in 2017.

Coach Dan Moore can certainly squeeze the most out of his athletes, and he’ll be tasked with that job here as Geneseo looks to keep their streak alive.
