Three-time NXN champion and U.S. national record holder Katelyn Tuohy is heading to NC State.
The nation's top female distance recruit has opted to run for the Wolfpack next year, as Katelyn Tuohy signed with NC State earlier today.
The news comes one week after MileSplit named Katelyn Tuohy the "Runner of the Decade" after a breakthrough high school career. Most recently, Tuohy became the first athlete to ever win the Nike Cross Nationals Individual title three times in a row. She is also a three-time Gatorade award recipient for New York State, as well as the overall title. In addition, she is the first athlete to win overall Gatorade Athlete of the Year in two different sports.
Tuohy will be joining a very strong recruiting class, which includes Foot Locker silver medalist Marlee Starliper, NXN 4th Place Finisher Claire Walters, and NXN All-American Jenna Schulz, among others.
In unconfirmed reports, Tuohy had also taken visits to Syracuse, Villanova, Providence, and Michigan.
New York has had a strong pipeline to Raleigh, North Carolina. Shenendehowa grad Julia Zachgo (Class of '18) and Saratoga grad Kelsey Chmiel (Class of '19) are two of the biggest names in distance running for the past fews years, each with their own state titles in relay and individual events. Also on the impressive roster is 2016 Foot Locker Runner-Up Nevada Mareno.
NC State recently finished 5th at the NCAA D1 National XC Championships, and are only losing one athlete to graduation.
Tuohy is one of the most decorated runners in New York State history, setting course records at storied venues like Van Cortlandt Park, Holmdel Park, and Bowdoin Park. She recently took second at USATF Club XC Championships, finishing only behind professional athlete Aisling Cuffe.
