Below are FloTrack’s top five professional male performers of 2019:
5. Daniel Stahl, Discus
From beginning to end, Stahl was sensational in 2019. He won the world title, the Diamond League and had the farthest throw of the year with a 71.86m toss that was good for sixth-best all-time.

4. Timothy Cheruiyot, Mid-Distance
Cheruiyot's front-running display in Doha was completely ridiculous, but so was his entire season. He only lost one race. After his gold medal at the World Championships, his competitors said that they knew heading into the final that they were running for silver. High praise.

3. Noah Lyles, Sprints
The wire-to-wire favorite in the 200m lived up to expectations in 2019. He only lost once in the 200m, posted the eighth-best time in history (19.50) and capped his season with a gold medal. Lyles also flourished in the 100m where he won the Diamond League title, opening up the possibility for a sprint double in 2020.

2. Karsten Warholm, 400m Hurdles
Warholm ruled over the most exciting men's event on the track in 2020. Despite the historically difficult competition from Rai Benjamin and Abderrahman Samba, Warholm pulled off an undefeated season. His best mark of the year, 46.92, moved him to second all-time, just .14 behind the world record.

1. Eliud Kipchoge, Marathon
Kipchoge's sublime 2019 was the only thing that could better Warholm's year. Kipchoge smashed the course record at the London Marathon in April. Then, in the fall he took another shot at breaking the two-hour barrier in the marathon. His 1:59:40 didn't count for record-setting purposes, but it was unmatched as a stand-alone effort.
