Former Wisconsin Badger Alicia Monson has turned professional and signed with Total Sports, the agency announced on Thursday.

Monson, the 2019 NCAA Indoor 5,000m champion, is the first NCAA track and field athlete from 2020 to sign with an agent. No announcement about a shoe sponsor has been made at this time.

This move was likely precipitated by the University of Wisconsin’s decision not to honor the additional spring season of eligibility that was granted by the NCAA after the coronavirus pandemic canceled all spring sports in 2020.

Monson was quoted in a Wisconsin State Journal report from April 10 saying that the school’s decision “just made it easy for me,” to turn professional.

She was a three-time All-American during her time in Madison, and particularly strong in cross country, as Monson finished top five at nationals in back-to-back seasons in 2018 and 2019. She boasts personal bests of 8:45.97 (3,000m) and 15:31 (5,000m).
