Stahl, Vetter Post Big Throws In Turku
Big throws by Daniel Stahl and Johannes Vetter highlighted the first stop of the Continental Tour.
The Continental Tour kicked off on Tuesday with the first stop taking place in Turku, Finland. As expected, the throws stole the show.
Johannes Vetter became the first man over 90-meters on the season with his first-round throw of 91.49m. The lack of competitions this year hasn't slowed the 2017 gold medalist, who posted the fifth farthest throw of his career.
Before a late ruling that he had fouled, Daniel Stahl thought he went back-to-back days with discus throws of 70 meters or better. Stahl, who won the Sollentuna meet with a toss of 71.37m on Monday, got going in the third round in Turku, throwing 69.23 to take the lead. Later in the competition, he had a throw over 70 meters that at first glance appeared to be fair. The mark was later wiped out, but Stahl still won by almost three meters.
Nadine Visser rolled to victory in the women’s 100m hurdles. Her mark of 12.68 is the best of 2020 and was just over a tenth of a second clear of second place.
Andrew Pozzi of Great Britain now owns the three best 110m hurdle times of 2020. Pozzi ran 13.25 in the heats and then followed that up with a 13.17 to win the final. That mark is just off his lifetime best of 13.14. Pozzi has now won all eight finals he’s appeared in this year.
