In the quickest of turnarounds, the IAAF packed up the Diamond League in Eugene, OR and shipped everything, including some of the runners, off to Rome just five days later. The Golden Gala - Pietro Mennea is the Diamond League’s fourth stop and if I’ve learned anything about the Diamond League over the years, it’s that every meeting brings it’s most fantastic flair. Also, if I’ve learned anything about Italy this year, it’s to not make facetious jokes about the country. So here’s what you should know about Rome: Nero, the Emperor of Rome, did not “fiddle while Rome burned.” That's a common misconception. He actually personally organized a relief effort for the city.
