Statistics & Superlatives From The 2017 NCAA DI XC Championships

Below, we take a closer look at some of the standout statistics from the NCAA Division I XC Championships held in Louisville, Kentucky, last weekend. First, we crunch a few stats regarding the men's and women's team champions in Northern Arizona and New Mexico, and then we take a subjective look at the most improved programs and most improved All-American individuals in the NCAA Championships. Northern Arizona Claims Second-Consecutive NCAA Cross Country Title

Capped by a wild dash to the finish that saw Northern Arizona's Matthew Baxter launch a serious challenge against Syracuse's Justyn Knight for the individual title, the Lumberjacks claimed their second-consecutive NCAA cross country championship today by scoring 74 points with three men in the top eight. Portland finished runner-up with 127 points, while Brigham Young took third with 165.

Led by a relentless Ednah Kurgat, the New Mexico Lobos placed four runners in the top 15 to secure the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championship title today with 90 points amid windy conditions in Louisville, Kentucky. San Francisco's historic year ended with their best NCAA finish ever, second place, with 105, and Colorado followed in third with 139.
