It goes without saying that many legendary track stars have come out of the University of Oregon throughout the years. No school is more closely associated with the sport of track and field in the universe, and it’s not even close. An Oregon coach literally invented the first Nike track spike, and the program hasn’t slowed a bit since the days of Bill Bowerman.

The ascent of the American women’s marathoning that started with almost 20 years ago with Deena Kastor continues on Saturday at the US Olympic Marathon Trials. Whoever makes the team is capable of getting a medal at the Olympics, and medal-worthy athletes will be left off the team. Here’s a breakdown of the top contenders.

The lean international field at the Chicago Marathon seems tailor-made for Jordan Hasay to rack up another podium finish at a World Marathon Major. Between fall majors Chicago, Berlin and New York, plus last week’s extremely late in the year IAAF World Championships, there’s just too many options this fall for elite athletes. 

Jordan Hasay has withdrawn from the Boston Marathon due to a stress reaction in her heel. According to the race management, Hasay had an MRI today that revealed the injury.

It might be February, but cross country is still in season! The USATF XC Championships go down this Saturday in Tallahassee, Florida, with 10K races for both men and women. There's no world cross to qualify for this year, so the event is simply a fun way to kick off the track and road racing season for this slew of diverse athletes — with, of course, a national title on the line.

Molly Huddle broke the American record for half marathon by clocking 1:07:25 over 13.1 miles at the 2018 Aramco Houston Half Marathon on Sunday morning.

Twelve years have passed since Deena Kastor's spectacular 2006, which saw her set American records in both the half and full marathon distances in 67:34 and 2:19:36. Prior to 2016 Kastor was truly in a league of her own, as no other American woman had ever broken 68 minutes for the half marathon, and to this day no other American has run faster than 2:20 for the full distance.
